Continua – promoting wellness and technology
The fusion between technology and wellness has opened up a whole new marketplace. Continua has brought together these aspects into one cohesive organisation dedicated to improving healthcare and wellness through the use of technology.
What is Continua?
Continua Health Alliance is a non-profit, open industry coalition of the best technology and healthcare companies in the world. Their mission is to establish a system of personal health systems that incorporate the very latest in cutting edge technology with the intent of bringing products to market that will give those suffering from health issues, greater independence and personalised health and wellness management.
More than 200 companies around the world are part of Continua, pooling their knowledge and resources to push the boundaries of healthcare technology to new levels. By working together, Continua members are designing and developing guidelines that will enable other organisations to build interoperable sensors, home networks, telehealth platforms and other health services. They're doing this by establishing a product certification programme that carries an instantly recognisable logo. This logo will indicate that the product being used is part of the cohesive organisation and is interoperable with other certified equipment.
Is there a need for an organisation like Continua?
Because the criteria for healthcare and wellness products are so much more stringent, this standardisation of new technology means that end-users can be certain that the equipment being used meets all regulatory requirements, as well as being some of the most cutting edge solutions available. Continua are constantly working with industry leaders in health care to address new ways of expanding personal telehealth systems that allow greater independence and flexibility in the treatment of long term health care issues.
