Why can't I define the energy usage for a multi-channel device in VERA UI7?

Question

Why can't I define the energy usage for a multi-channel device in VERA UI7?

Answer

VERA UI7 allows you to manually set the Energy usage in Watts for each device. This is especially useful when you have a Dimmer/Relay that doesn’t do Power Metering.

Unfortunately, for some reason we can’t understand, this option seems to be missing from “child devices”. What this means is if you have a multi-channel device such as a Fibaro Dual Channel Relay then you can only set the Energy usage for the first channel.

Thankfully there’s a workaround.

Solution

  • On the “child device” that you want to add the Energy usage value to click at Advanced Tab – New Service and add the following data:

New service: urn:micasaverde-com:serviceId:EnergyMetering1

New Variable: UserSuppliedWattage

Value: 10 (replace with the correct value in Watts)

  • Click Add followed by Reload Engine a couple of seconds later

UserSuppliedWattage

Allow a couple of seconds for VERA to settle down and head back to the Dashboard where you should now see the device showing its energy usage
