Turn on your lights - Triggered by your motion

Add a motion sensor to your Philips Hue system for convenience, peace of mind and energy saving. Battery powered and completely wireless, so you can place it anywhere in your home. Easy to configure via the Philips Hue app.

Automatic motion detection

Connect the Philips Hue motion sensor to your Philips Hue bridge via the Philips Hue app, and it will automatically turn on your Philips Hue lights when you enter a room. Perfect for your hallway, bathroom, basement or garage. You can choose in the app which scene or light setting should be triggered when motion is detected. The lights will turn off automatically, when there is no longer motion detected.

Day and night setting

It's possible to set different light settings for day and night. During the day, the sensor can trigger crisp white light to help you see better. At night, it can turn on a gentle night light when you, your partner or child gets out of bed. Just enough to help you navigate in the dark, without waking up the rest of the family.

Integrated daylight sensor

Thanks to an integrated daylight sensor, your lights only turn on when it's needed. You can easily change the light sensitivity in the Philips Hue app, so the sensor only triggers when you need that bit of extra light. When no more motion is detected, the lights dim down before they automatically switch off after a selected time. The motion sensor also helps you to save energy by automatically turning off lights in areas that aren’t being used.

No wires - place it anywhere

The motion sensor is battery powered, so completely wireless and easy to install anywhere in your home. Setting it up is done in a matter of minutes. Simply put it on a shelf, side table, or mount it to a wall or ceiling using the included screw. You can even attach it to metal surfaces such as your fridge, with the included magnet. You can easily adjust the detection angle by turning the sensor in the right direction.

Expand your ecosystem

You can connect up to 50 lights and various accessories to the Philips Hue bridge. Simply start with any of the available starter kits or a single bridge and start adding Philips Hue products. You can then control your lights at the swipe of a finger with the Philips Hue app. Hue controls such as the Hue dimmer swtich, Hue Tap and the Hue motion sensor. Philips Hue is based on ZigBee, a low power and reliable technology to control your lights. New features and improvements are continuously added to the system. Updates to both software and firmware are done wirelessly and seamlessly directly to your Philips Hue product.

Works straight out of the box
These are not the first that I've purchased, I'm currently replacing all my zwave motion detectors connected to lights as the hue ones are more reliable.

Beta Product Not Ready for Prime Time
I had great hopes for this as I'd tried the Fibaro motion sensor's lux meter capabilities and seemed to have range issues (in a tiny flat). The plan was to have my Hue lights turn on during the day in the bedroom when I came in but only if it was dark enough but during the evening my Smarthings motion sensor would take over and put the bedroom lights on Relax from sunset to 10pm then they would set to Read and gradually start to dim at 10:40pm until they automatically turned off at 11pm. My Sonos is set to start ClassicFM at 10pm and turn off at 11pm and together this has helped me get to sleep. First issue. You can only programme 2 time based modes with the Hue motion sensor. For instance, you can have it light to one of your scenes or light recipes from 10am to 7pm. You can now only tell it to do one other thing from 7pm to 10am. You can't leave time gaps or have more than two time rules. That might be fine but then you have the 2nd issue. 2nd Issue. There is a "Do nothing" option which should, in theory, tell the motion detector to ignore everything and thus should allow my Smarthings motion sensor to take over in the evening and my Hue to run its automated scenes. However "Do nothing" is "Dim the lights then turn them off whilst ignoring what else is programmed in the Hue hub". I reported it to Philips and they said they are aware of the issue (no idea of when or if it will be fixed). So, if you have any other lighting automation I wouldn't bother buying one of these until they fix the issues. If you have no lighting automation this is a great extension to Hue and the option to turn off gently after a set period of activity, as well as the light and motion sensitivy option work quite well (but not perfectly). It's been a dissapointed purchase for me so far as I have have it disabled at night and remember to enable it. Yes, manual home Automation, you'll be asking me to use a lightswitch next! ;)

Didn't pass the wife test
I love Philips hue and have many bulbs and accessories so it was great to see the new motion sensor from Philips, I ordered 2 and persuaded my wife that it would work great in the bathroom, having spent a great deal of time just to get the app to find the sensor I placed it in the bathroom and set the daylight sensitivity so that it wouldn't come on in the daytime, unfortunately it always came on in the daytime and the last straw was when my wife went for a bath at night and it didn't come on at all, she made me take it out and go back to an old fashioned switch. I will be returning them.

Excellent does everything it says and more.
Fantastic product, excellent quality. Because of the magnetic bracket you can mount it almost anywhere. Another great device for the hue family.

Great to see this supports IFTTT. How do you get IFTTT to use this motion detector?
Busta999 18 Nov 2016
BEST ANSWER: You can't directly, that's an error on our product description page that we'll have fixed. To use IFTTT with Hue devices you need the Hue bridge since this is what provides the Cloud-to-Cloud connection to the IFTTT service. But even with the Hue bridge, the Hue IFTTT channel doesn't expose any "triggers", only "actions" - so you can't react to motion etc over IFTTT, only control scenes or lights. Hope that helps!
