What is a Proprietary Technology

What is a Proprietary Technology

Home Automation devices sometimes use wireless systems that don't fall under one of the recognised technologies such as Z-Wave, ZigBee or LightwaveRF. We refer to these as "Proprietary Wireless" because actual details of the protocols in use are normally unknown outside of the manufacturer.

Using devices based on a closed system technology can actually have some benefits that don't immediately spring to mind - such as increased security and reliability - but it does often mean that integrating into other Home Automation systems can be challenging!
