Great lock, but high price
Just had my KeyFree connected fitted by the local Yale installer. The handle assembly was delivered within 48 hours, and the locksmith contacted me later that day to arrange the installation... this is where it went a bit south as he was waiting for backordered fittings from Yale, resulting in a month long wait from ordering, to having the lock installed. I can't fault Vesternet, or the locksmith for this, it appears that Yale simply underestimated demand... a bit disappointing for a premium product. Overall the fitting took around 2 hours, although I understand it was a particularly challenging install. Once fitted, the lock included on a Vera Plus with no issues, it was correctly detected, and worked right away, without the usual level of swearing and messing around required when adding something new to Vera. Overall this is a good quality lock from a trusted brand, it's very simple to use and looks great... As such WAF is very high, just, for the love of god, don't tell her how much it cost :) Another very slight criticism is that the cylinders inside these locks cannot be keyed alike... I was hoping I could (eventually) replace the locks on all 3 outer doors with these, and have them all use the same backup key. This is only a minor point, as the physical key should only be needed in an emergency... but again, when spending so much money, it's a bit of a shame little things like this haven't been considered.

Technology even my wife likes
Fitted in around 30 mins by Yale this lock not only looks great but works extremely well, I have key fobs for my wife and I and have set up entry codes for my son and daughter who always leave the house without their keys, I can also set up temporary codes for workman/visitors. Easy to set up and use and expandable with the modules, love it

No installation in Scotland ? On the Yale store you can select Scotland so why doesn't the option exist.
Angela W. 11 Aug 2016
BEST ANSWER: If Yale have added Scotland then that is then available through us as well. The lock is installed by Yale installers so as long as have coverage then that is fine. We will confirm this with Yale today and update the description.
Why is this only available in England and Wales? What about Vera DIYers around the EU???
John M. 11 Aug 2016
BEST ANSWER: The Keyfree lock is not available without installation and Yale currently only have installers in England and Wales. The Keyfree isn't a complete 'kit' that can be installed on any door. The Installer brings various components with them, using different ones for different doors. This is why it's not available as a stand alone product without installation.
Is this lock fully compatible with the Z-Wave HomeSeer HomeTroller Zee S2 Gen5,?also can I buy the lock without the installation?
Dave R. 11 Aug 2016
BEST ANSWER: We've not tested it with HS, only with VERA. If HS has full support for locks, then this will work - it worked in VERA with no changes or work arounds.
I am interested in this lock. However what are the pros and cons of each module? Does the z wave module only allow code and remote access. Does it also allow you to use tags or cards. I assume from other questions here it will work with VERA and VERA plus controllers?
ENSORS 10 Aug 2016
BEST ANSWER: With VERA and the Z-Wave module, you can lock/unlock the lock, set and edit PIN codes and assign different access rights to users. They work very well together and we have helped Yale create some guides to show how they work together - http://www.vesternet.com/knowledgebase/technical/kb-93 The Keyfree lock does not support tag or card access as there is not enough space in the lock body to accommodate the RFID section. The Keyless version (Night latch) does support card and tag access.
Can you please confirm if the lock, when used with a suitable Z-Wave gateway can unlock using only proximity with a mobile phone? If so, could you please recommend a suitable gateway. Thanks Rob
Rob G. 9 Aug 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes you can use Geofencing on the phone to do this. But you would probably want to be a little careful doing that as Geofencing is a little inaccurate and also depends on how often you have the phone ping the servers. The more often you ping, the more accurate it is, but more battery life used.
Can the lock be paired with your smartphone to utilise NFC technology?
Simon D. 2 Jun 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi Simon, This lock, depending which version you buy will work with Z-Wave or a Yale Alarm system, and the RF tags/cards. But it doesn't support direct control from a phone with NFC. Hope this makes sense.
I have a wooden door, are there any mechanisms that allow this lock to be used ?
MFK11 13 Mar 2016
BEST ANSWER: Wooden doors can have multi-point lock mechanisms, so this lock would work in that situation, but you would need to have the multi-point lock installed already. This is an intricate job, so you would need to speak directly to a lock installer. If you don't have a multi-point lock, you may be better looking at the Yale Keyless lock - this is a night-latch style lock.
The video shows a 9V PP3 being used as an "override" ? Please explain how this works - hopefully it doesn't mean anyone can get access to the house if they slide down this bit of the lock ?
MFK11 22 Feb 2016
BEST ANSWER: The PP3 is not exactly an override. It is used in the case of the main lock batteries having run down and the lock not having power. The PP3 is used as an emergency power source so you can operate the lock. However, this is only power - you still have to operate the lock in the normal manner using PIN, RF tag or wireless commands. The PP3 emergency power does not affect security in any way.
Does this work properly with the Fibaro HC2?
4 Feb 2016
BEST ANSWER: The lock itself has full Z-Wave support. However, the issue is with the HC2's support for locks (not just Yale). Last time we checked, they only had very basic support. You can open and close the lock, but that's it. You cannot change the PIN numbers, add PIN numbers or users. This is a limitation on HC2 in the current firmware versions. I would expect Fibaro to improve this support as it's quite fundamental to fully use a lock.
Does the price includes multipoint lock installation?
hari t. 1 Feb 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi, yes, we highlight that in the top section and in the bottom of the main description. It includes full installation by a Yale approved installer.
Can you use the remote fob as well using the zwave module?
Gareth 12 Jan 2016
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately the remote fob requires the remote fob module - http://www.vesternet.com/yale-smart-living-remote-fob-module You can only fit one module at a time I'm afraid! You can of course use a Z-Wave keyfob to operate the lock via your Z-Wave controller if you wish.
What can you do with the z-wave module, for example does it send updates to Vera when the door is closed, locked or unlocked?
David F. 9 Jan 2016
BEST ANSWER: When used with VERA you can set PIN codes, and it will report to VERA it's status and if it has been unlocked using the PIN code. It also shows in VERA which user (PIN code) has been used to unlock the lock.
