Aeotec Siren for a Smart, Secure and Safe Home

The safety and security features of a Z-Wave automation system get an upgrade with Aeotecs’ Siren.

The Z-Wave Aeotec Siren takes the best smart home technology and uses it to help you build a safe home. It is an easy to use & install indoor alarm that can sync up to your existing Z-Wave device with no problems.  The siren has 5 separate alert tones and you can set the tones according to what type of emergency you have, whether it is a fire, water leak, break-in, etc.

The Aeotec Siren has a built-in lithium battery in case the electricity goes off or gets cut and the loud 106db alarm will be heard throughout your home for further peace of mind.

Note: The Aeotec Siren is only available in a European (Schuko) plug type, you will need a UK adapter to use with a UK wall socket.

Siren for safety

Most sirens are designed to be placed outdoors in the hopes of deterring break-ins or to alert your neighbours that something’s up. Aeotec's Siren has been crafted to keep you safe and secure when you’re at home. Your and yours family safety is its focus.

The Siren offers 5 different alert tones that have been designed for issues ranging from home intrusions to fire emergencies to falls. They’re all available to you through your Z-Wave gateway so that you can perfectly optimise Siren for your security and safety needs.

The Smart Siren

Emergency Backup

Sometimes emergencies happen when your power is out,  or it’s the emergency that causes it. With its inbuilt, constantly recharging backup battery, Siren is always at the ready and always on, even when your power isn’t.

Does the job, but very limited wifi range
Loud siren, that I could easily link into my Samsung Smartthings system without any problems. Trouble is that the wifi range is very limited. The location I wanted for the siren was about 6-7 metres from my BT Infinity router, and in an almost direct line (i.e. not through walls etc.). But the siren would not connect to the wifi signal. BT maintain that their latest router has the strongest wifi of all home routers, and I'd agree. The wifi around the house is "3 bar" strong, and also well into a large garden. I have a Samsung motion sensor and magnetic door switch in exactly the same location as where I wanted to put the siren. Both of these devices connected perfectly to the wifi. I had to move the siren to with 5 metres of the router, before it would respond to the wifi. Not an ideal location, being that the Schuko plug means it sticks out from the wall socket quite a lot.

Very good
The product arrived quickly, I bought it because it can be used with Smartthings, it is incredibly easy to install. It is also very loud, so for a device that tiny, it is very good. The only bad thing is that there is no UK plug, but Vesternet supplies free adapters. Having said that, the product sticks out from the wall a bit. However despite that I really recommend it, it is a great piece of equipment!

Shame about no UK socket option
Other users have stated this sticks out a fair distance when plugged in, due to the Shuko plug, and It does, there's no getting away with it. So downgraded for that. But, for what I intended to use it for, door activation alarm, it does very well. Paired first time with Vera Ui7, no issues.

Works, but very limited
Firstly, this has a European shuko plug. By the time you add the UK adaptor is sticks nearly 10cm out from the socket, rather messing up the nice lines which should see it right up to the socket. Secondly, Aeon have made no way in their zwave design to control the sounds directly. There are workarounds, so in HomeSeer I don't send an on command, but instead send a Set Parameter command to choose one of the 5 in-built tones and sound levels. I then mark it is as on as a separate command. I can then switch it off using the button or with a command or control in HomeSeer. Just a bit painful to get working. There is also no option to have different sounds or tones, and even the cheapest doorbells now allow you to upload an mp3, so this is quite expensive without allowing the same options as cheap doorbells. The tones are all a variety of alarms - good for different alarm types, but don't try to use as a doorbell extension.

Works with vera plus easily if you only want one sound
Now pairs and can be configured easily in vera UI7 but as sound type and volume are in parameters you can only set one value. That's fine for me as I mainly want it to tell me if a door is open. Think you should be able to use luup code to set individual parameters for each scene, but can't get the code to work properly at the moment.

A good internal siren.
Good siren with excellent buid quality. As siren is loud and include a battery backup, I'm using it as a bell with an outdoor z-wave door sensor. The inclusion with Eedomus is easy but the manual a bit so-so. Finally a recommended buy.

Multifunction siren, really good and quite a bit smaller than I thought it would be but super loud!
Great siren especially if you want to have control over the volume and siren tone so you can adjust it according to your sensor network feedback. I have developed my own alarm system in Node.js that listens for sensor changes and acts accordingly and if a sensor is tripped and the alarm is active I send the siren the signal to start chirping at a low volume giving us 10 seconds to disarm the alarm via the iPad app I wrote. If the alarm code is not entered in time the system sets the siren to full volume and a different tone. This is better than some other sirens that don't provide different tones or volume control.

Z-wave dropouts and non UK plug
Perhaps a little unfair giving this 2 stars but this product doesn't integrate with Vera Edge properly which will probably be addressed in a future Vera update as these are quite regular. As it stands today it keeps dropping out of the Z-wave network which is three feet away from my Vera Edge. Oh and it's got a moulded EU style plug that forms part of the unit which needs an adaptor.

Does this act as a repeater as well? Many sirens I see seem not to...

Hello is this fully functional now with UI7 and does it come with a UK plug
Neville B. 3 Sep 2017
your compatibility guide suggests this doesn't work with UI7, but your work around notes only refer to UI5. can you confirm if this works fully with UI7 / vera Plus?
Guest Visitor 22 Mar 2016
BEST ANSWER: We've not tested the Aeon Siren recently, but based on customer feedback it is now possible to turn the siren on / off in UI7 but still not possible to alter the volume / sounds dynamically due to the way that Aeon implemented these features. The guide at http://www.vesternet.com/resources/application-notes/apnt-90 shows how you can use LUA scripting to control the volume and sounds dynamically, this technique should still work in UI7.
Whats the minimum decibel this will go to? and could you use it as short alert sound for a door opening with Vera Plus?
Guest Visitor 17 Mar 2016
BEST ANSWER: The minimum volume setting is 88dB (parameter #37), this should be fine for your application. Most doorbells for instance are around 85-90dB. So this should be loud enough without being too loud.
can this be triggered via smartthings by pressung a button on smart phone ?
Guest Visitor 5 Mar 2016
BEST ANSWER: It can be triggered within the smartthings apps, by pressing on / off button. if that's what you are asking. Can be triggered by any sensor within smartthings.
