  1.    This itemZ-Wave Everspring Door & Window Detector
  2.    Z-Wave Everspring Screw-In Module

The Everspring Door and Window Detector is a Z-Wave sensor that tells your central controller whether a door or window is open or closed.

The detector uses two magnetic units to detect movement; one is placed on the moving part of the door or window and the other unit on the frame.

The motion detector supports two Z-Wave association Groups, which enables it to communicate with a total of six Z-Wave devices. This means that when the unit is triggered, all devices associated with the unit will receive the Z-Wave alert.

The detector is easily fitted to any door or window using screws or double-sided tape, and as it is battery-operated requires no extra wiring. Battery replacement is simple and the detector even tells you when they need replacing by flashing its LED and sending an alert to the central controller.

Note: To be used as part of a Z-Wave network this sensor requires a suitable Z-Wave controller.

Great unit - battery isn't amazing, but very acceptable
It's not surprising to learn the battery drains quicker than say, the room thermostats. However, for a few coin batteries - and very quick updates to veraplus, this device operates incredibly well. I have been very impressed with it. After 3 weeks of using it, battery is now 70%. Not too shabby.

Aeon labs gen5 is nothing compared to this sensor. Extremely reliable

I have used a number of the HSM02 door/window switches and I really like them. They work really well.

Well built simple to install and use
I fixed mine with 3M tape so had everything running in minutes. Getting the 2 items to align on UPVC doors can be tricky, but with a filler piece of UPVC all great.

Good sensor
This sensor works very well. It is responsive and instantly reports when a door or window is opened or closed. I have written my own control software in Node.js using the Aeon Z-Stick S2 as the zwave interface and it works nicely without any issues. I also note that the two parts do not have to be positioned exactly parallel to each other to be in a closed state as the magnet appears strong enough to contact even when the two parts are marginally further apart than you might expect. This is good for us as our windows are recessed from the frame and cannot position the sensor parts in parallel with each other.

Good Detection Range
Two units are working reliably with a Raspberry PI / Domoticz software controller. The magnet can be placed some distance from the sensor box and still work reliably - this is very handy if the door surface is not level with the frame. Testing is accomplished by removing the battery cover which activates an internal LED indicator. There has been no issue with signal strength, and the DOMOTICZ software can send alerts to a smart-phone if the sensor is tripped. Two fairly large coin cells are required per unit.

Cheapest, reliable door sensor that isn't too ugly or obtrusive. Great for rooms that already have a multisensor (motion/temperature/light etc.). Works well with Homeseer.

Chosen on cost and has turned out to be much more reliable than the Fibaro FGK-101 units - which offer more functionality but the cases tend to pop off. These are very reliable, bullet proof and work seamless.

Can this alert you if a window/ door has been left open, or does it just alert as it is opened? I want an alert to show a window is open when I try to set the 'away' scene.
Ian W. 19 Jul 2016
BEST ANSWER: The sensor works like any other - sending a message to your controller when the state is changed i.e. the door/window is opened or closed. So, yes, you can achieve what you want to do depending on which controller you're using... e.g. say you have 2 door sensors, you would create an event that says "IF house is set to 'away' AND IF door 1 is open OR IF door 2 is open THEN send alert". YMMV depending on which controller you're using.
Is this suitable to use in a garage (which is a bit damp)?
Giles H. 6 May 2016
BEST ANSWER: It's not rated for any kind of direct contact with water, but if it's just damp then mount with the sticky pads (included) which would create a barrier between it and the door/wall. Have had one in my (dry-ish) garage for well over a year - operating fine and still on first set of (included) batteries.
