  2.    Z-Wave Fibaro Smoke Sensor Plus

The Fibaro Home Center 2 is a complete home automation gateway. It communicates with sensors and devices located throughout your home using wired or Z-Wave wireless communications. It also supports external communication using an existing broadband connection (DSL or Cable).

It offers an array of advanced features, but like all Fibaro products, it is easy to install and use.

The Home Center 2 allows you to easily manage your home automation network, whether you are at home, in the office or using a mobile phone.

Fibaro Home Center Interface

Elegant and Modern

The Home Centre 2 is expertly designed - in and out.

Its modern, elegant looks, thanks to its sleek aluminium case, mean that it won't be out of place, no matter where you install it.

Intel Atom 1.6 GHz processor

The Home Center 2 is the fastest home gateway in the world. The Intel Atom processor is fast and low-power, which means the Home Center 2 delivers high-speed performance while being extremely power efficient.

1GB RAM, 2GB SLC Hard Drive

The combination of large memory and super fast processor mean that the Home Center 2 has blistering communication speeds with all devices on the network.

4GB MLC Recovery Disc

Significantly improved user safety thanks to a new approach to data protection. Each Home Center 2 has its’ own Recovery disc, holding system backup, unique to each gateway. This completely protects each system from unauthorized access. This solution also means that if there is a system failure, it can be quickly 'recovered' to its last known 'good' state.

Quick and easy installation

In order to install HC2, all you need to do is connect the power cord and Ethernet cable as shown here, It is really that simple. Once setup is complete, you can access your new Home Center 2 through your home Wi-Fi network. If there is an issue, troubleshoot by holding the reset button for a few seconds and access the HC2 control panel with the IP address

Linked devices offer new possibilities

The Linked Devices function lets you combine multiple devices into one virtual device with combined functionality – for example 3 heater thermostats plus temperature and humidity sensors. The primary advantage of this feature is the convenience of being able to control multiple devices at the same time, at the press of one button. The second advantage is a reduction of the number of devices icons in the user interfaces.

Great comfort thanks to Devices Panels

The Home Center 2 interface gives You easy control over groups of devices responsible for the same functionality – heating, air conditioning, garden watering. Thanks to Devices Panels, you can easily schedule operations for groups of devices, based on the day of the week or the time of day.

Advanced scenes

The Home Center's advanced features give you control of your entire home network and enable you to create 'scenarios' when particular things happen. For instance, when it rains, you can set the system to close all your windows and switch off any garden sprinklers.

Nearly Awesome
A great product that's very well thought through for the most part. Integration with some elements can require thinking outside the box, e.g to get the unit to command my lights (limitless led) i had to use a raspberry pi as a middle man. I'm sure it would have been a lot easier with Hue bulbs. It has an intuitive interface and great functionality would highly recommend.

Non Existent Customer Service or Warranty
Fibaro has no understanding of customer service, my system blew-up twice. Had to send it to Poland via expensive courier and cover the cost. Most of emails to support are ignored and there's no track of what's been done to your device. Absolutely terrible, products should be banned from sales in UK as FIbaro does not adhere to EU legislation when it comes to warranty

I built my system about a year ago and my controller has been as steady as a rock. Constant updates to improve and it keeps getting better. I found it easy to setup and the web / app interface is very good. So far I have running off it: 3 dimmers, 4 RGBW modules, 2 switches, 2 smoke alarms, 1 web cam, 1 front door lock, 3 motion sensors, 3 blind modules, 3 plug switches, 1 Remote IP link, 1 room thermostat , 1 heater control & 2 heater thermostats. Its addictive and I would definitely recommend the HC2!

Works well only with fibaros modules
It doesn't support any recent modules from other manufacturers than Fibaro. In fact it works well only with modules made by Fibaro. If you plan to buy modules from Aeon etc just go for something else than HC2

Great product
Absolutely fantastic bit of kit. It's a little bit to wrap your head around at first, but Vesternet's support is fast and robust. They were brilliant through the initial learning curve. Once I got comfortable with the software, it's very straight forward. The box looks very nice, very high quality, and a breeze to get going. Love this system, worth every penny!

Replaced Vera with a home center 2 from Fibaro. Added a number of Fibaro modules and reprogrammed old modules without issue. RGBW works really well. The documentation on your site was helpful when programming scenes.

Great little controller
Debated for quite a while on which Z-Wave controller to purchase, and am really glad I chose the Fibaro unit. Interface looks great and it's very easy to use. From unpacking the box, I had the first of my lights controlled within about 20 minutes (including fitting the switch). Only issue so far is that it does need a reboot now and then or the scheduler seems to stop. Not a huge issue as I have a task running to reboot the unit once a week at night. I also use the fibaro switch modules with this and they make a great package. Recommended!

I originally bought the Home Center Lite, but as my network developed I discovered that I wanted (I do like to play) the increased flexibility of LUA programming. That's really the only distinction as they're both able to run a substantial installation

Can I use this in the US- thanks?
4 Oct 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, this is a European frequency product. All Z-Wave products that we sell are European frequency (868MHz) -
does this use a lot of energy?
4 Oct 2016
BEST ANSWER: It saves more energy in the house then what it consumes. My dimmer lights , air conditioners are controlled based on the temperature required . The curtains too shut on and off based on the sunlight.
Please I want to know how to connect more than one home center together one as a primary controller and the other is a secondary one to solve a z wave range problem?
Mohammed S. 11 Sep 2016
BEST ANSWER: It is remarkably simple and covered in the user guide from the Configuration/Gateway Settings screen you can add a controller as secondary. I'm using an HC Lite as secondary for exactly the same reason. The only slow process is adding the required units to the secondary controller, but then you can sync with the main controller and they will all appear (with separate IDs), and you can incorporate them into your scenes.
Does the Aeotec Led Lamp work fully with Fibaro. On, off, dimmer and colour Change control?
3 Jul 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes. With a little help from the forums there's a good virtual device for all of the above.
Do you have any information on Fibaro HC3? Is a new model coming out with Zwave plus chip? As they are releasing products with Zwave plus, a new controller or upgrade should be close?
3 Jul 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have heard about the new HC3 being released for a long time , but there has been no official news from Fibaro. HC2 performs and supports all the functions required for home automation in order.. I shall be installing HC2 in phases in all my four houses , the first installation shall take place in my Singapore residence followed by my residences Mumbai ( India) , Hong Kong and lastly in Jaipur (India).. Support for HC2 will exist even if HC3 is released . Moreover Z-Wave Plus products are fully backward compatible with classic Z-Wave products.
Deos the HC2 support Zwave plus? Will there a new version coming?
Sam L. 21 Jun 2016
BEST ANSWER: It does support Z-Wave Plus devices, but it's worth explaining this a little further. The HC2 does not use the Z-Wave 500 series chip, so is not itself a Z-Wave Plus device. However, it does support the Z-Wave Plus command classes used by Z-Wave Plus devices. This means that it will work with most Z-Wave Plus devices, in fact the most recent devices released by Fibaro are full Z-Wave Plus devices such as the Dimmer2, Smoke Sensor Plus, and Motion Sensor Gen5. So HC2 will support Z-Wave Plus (Gen5) devices, but you will not get the improvements in range that Z-Wave Plus devices offer as the system will be using the Z-Wave chips to send and receive signals from devices. Other improvements such as extended battery life will still be available as they are at the device level. More information about Z-Wave Plus is in this guide - What is Z-Wave Plus -
HI There. Do you sell this unit with 921.42Mhz ? AU/NZ ? And if yes how much for the shipping to Sydney Australia
Nedzad 17 May 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm afraid we only sell European frequency Z-Wave products (868MHz), so cannot supply the ANZ frequency.Hope this makes sense.
I am looking to buy the Fibaro HC2 - I currently have smart things and it is driving me mad, I want to link in a whole bunch of living connect Z-wave radiator valves (not purchased yet) - and incorporate my lighting which is currently all philips Hue (22 bulbs already owned - some coloured some just warm white) I have a need for two or three pir's (have one currently on smart things but will swap for fibre ones because I need sensitivity control to tune out my cats) I have a need for some relay type switching which I have not yet purchased, and I have a Fibaro Smoke alarm which will not work with smart things... I also need a couple of good, solid on/off z-wave UK sockets. So my question is - can I integrate my Philips Hue system into HC2 and will i be disappointed with the scene control? fyi i am not looking to run Hue Scenes (I hope to create these in Fibaro don't know if that is even possible)
Andybott 19 Apr 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi Andy, The HC2 will work with Philips Hue, we have detailed guides available to show you how this works and how it looks. If you send me an email I will be able to help you -
Will the lights come on in my house when I pull up on my drive as I had Philips Hue which had this and it never worked ?
Plasmakris P. 8 Feb 2016
BEST ANSWER: Well, it depends... If you can place a motion sensor where it is still within reach, this can control anything you want that is electric. But, of course, it will react for anything that appears that is big enough... There is a function where the system keeps track of where your smartphone is, I never got this to work. Many of the motion sensors are battery operated, but many of them are not weatherproof. I like the Fibaro motion sensor. It also report light conditions, temperature and tampering/earthquakes(!). I have one on the back of my house under the roof. It controls when indoor lights turn on. And it turns on garden lights if somone moves in that area after dark. And I also get a temperature metering. Regards /Rolf, Sweden
