  2.    Z-Wave Fibaro Smoke Sensor Plus

The Fibaro Home Center 2 is a complete home automation gateway. It communicates with sensors and devices located throughout your home using Z-Wave wireless communications. It also supports external communication using an existing broadband connection (DSL or Cable).

It offers an array of advanced features, but like all Fibaro products, it is easy to install and use.

The Home Center 2 allows you to easily manage your home automation network, whether you are at home, in the office or using a mobile phone.

Fibaro Home Center Interface

Elegant and Modern

The Home Centre 2 is expertly designed - in and out.

Its sleek aluminium case ensures that HC2 won’t look out of place no matter where you install it.

Fast top-of-the-range hardware

Intel Atom 1.6 GHz processor

The Home Center 2 is the fastest home gateway in the world. The Intel Atom processor is fast and low-power, which means the Home Center 2 delivers high-speed performance while being extremely power efficient.

1GB RAM, 2GB SLC Hard Drive

The combination of large memory and super fast processor mean that the Home Center 2 has blistering communication speeds with all devices on the network.

4GB MLC Back-Up Disc

All HC2 systems are back-up to the large capacity USB Flash drive. This completely protects each system from unauthorised access. This solution also means that if there is a system failure, it can be quickly 'recovered' to its last known 'good' state.

Simple installation

In order to install HC2, all you need to do is connect the power cord and Ethernet cable as shown here, It is really that simple.

Fibaro home center installation

Once setup is complete, you can access your new Home Center 2 through your home Wi-Fi network.

If there is an issue, troubleshoot by holding the reset button for a few seconds and access the HC2 control panel with the IP address

Linked devices offer new possibilities

Linking your devices together with Home Center 2 allows you to control multiple devices at once, making it easier to organise your scenes and keep the control panel clutter-free.

When enabled, geolocation allows you to track your family’s movements by GPS. It just takes a few minutes to sync Home Center 2 with your iOS or Android smartphone.

Fibaro Geo localization

Advanced features

The Home Center's advanced features give you control of your entire home network and enable you to create 'scenarios' when particular things happen. For instance, when it rains, you can set the system to close all your windows and switch off any garden sprinklers.

Works well only with fibaros modules
It doesn't support any recent modules from other manufacturers than Fibaro. In fact it works well only with modules made by Fibaro. If you plan to buy modules from Aeon etc just go for something else than HC2

Great product
Absolutely fantastic bit of kit. It's a little bit to wrap your head around at first, but Vesternet's support is fast and robust. They were brilliant through the initial learning curve. Once I got comfortable with the software, it's very straight forward. The box looks very nice, very high quality, and a breeze to get going. Love this system, worth every penny!

Great little controller
Debated for quite a while on which Z-Wave controller to purchase, and am really glad I chose the Fibaro unit. Interface looks great and it's very easy to use. From unpacking the box, I had the first of my lights controlled within about 20 minutes (including fitting the switch). Only issue so far is that it does need a reboot now and then or the scheduler seems to stop. Not a huge issue as I have a task running to reboot the unit once a week at night.

I also use the fibaro switch modules with this and they make a great package. Recommended!

Replaced Vera with a home center 2 from Fibaro. Added a number of Fibaro modules and reprogrammed old modules without issue. RGBW works really well. The documentation on your site was helpful when programming scenes.

I built my system about a year ago and my controller has been as steady as a rock. Constant updates to improve and it keeps getting better. I found it easy to setup and the web / app interface is very good. So far I have running off it: 3 dimmers, 4 RGBW modules, 2 switches, 2 smoke alarms, 1 web cam, 1 front door lock, 3 motion sensors, 3 blind modules, 3 plug switches, 1 Remote IP link, 1 room thermostat , 1 heater control & 2 heater thermostats. Its addictive and I would definitely recommend the HC2!

I originally bought the Home Center Lite, but as my network developed I discovered that I wanted (I do like to play) the increased flexibility of LUA programming. That's really the only distinction as they're both able to run a substantial installation

Will the lights come on in my house when I pull up on my drive as I had Philips Hue which had this and it never worked ?
Plasmakris P on Feb 8, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Well, it depends... If you can place a motion sensor where it is still within reach, this can control anything you want that is electric. But, of course, it will react for anything that appears that is big enough... There is a function where the system keeps track of where your smartphone is, I never got this to work.

Many of the motion sensors are battery operated, but many of them are not weatherproof. I like the Fibaro motion sensor. It also report light conditions, temperature and tampering/earthquakes(!). I have one on the back of my house under the roof. It controls when indoor lights turn on. And it turns on garden lights if somone moves in that area after dark. And I also get a temperature metering.

I am looking to buy the Fibaro HC2 - I currently have smart things and it is driving me mad, I want to link in a whole bunch of living connect Z-wave radiator valves (not purchased yet) - and incorporate my lighting which is currently all philips Hue (22 bulbs already owned - some coloured some just warm white) I have a need for two or three pir's (have one currently on smart things but will swap for fibre ones because I need sensitivity control to tune out my cats) I have a need for some relay type switching which I have not yet purchased, and I have a Fibaro Smoke alarm which will not work with smart things... I also need a couple of good, solid on/off z-wave UK sockets. So my question is - can I integrate my Philips Hue system into HC2 and will i be disappointed with the scene control? fyi i am not looking to run Hue Scenes (I hope to create these in Fibaro don't know if that is even possible)

The HC2 will work with Philips Hue, we have detailed guides available to show you how this works and how it looks. If you send me an email I will be able to help you -
I know it's possible to control LightwaveRF lights using Fibaro, but is it possible to control Fibaro devices/scenes etc using the LightwaveRF switches?

LightwaveRF Mood Lighting Controller (Master Wall Switch)
LightwaveRF Mood Lighting Controller (Master Wall Switch)
BEST ANSWER: As far as I know that will not work. You can make HC2 control LightwaveRF dimmers by sending UDP messages from HC2 to the LightwaveRF Link. However, the LightwaveRF Link cannot do that in reverse, and HC2 cannot receive UDP commands. So this will not work.

If you are looking for good Z-Wave scene controllers to control Z-Wave devices directly or to trigger scenes, I would suggest looking at the Nodon devices
