Relay Switch 1 x 2,5kW (FGS-212)

Radio controlled Fibaro On/Off Relay Switch is designed to be installed in standard wall switch boxes, or anywhere else where it is necessary to operate an electric device up to 10A. Fibaro On/Off Relay Switch can switch on or off connected device either through radio waves or through the wall switch connected directly to it.

3-minute installation

The installation of Fibaro modules takes about 3 minutes. All you need to do is remove a given switch (e.g. the one responsible for switching the lights on and off) from the wall, disconnect it from the wires coming out of the wall, connect the Fibaro module to the wires and reconnect the switch to the module. Next you need to screw the switch into the wall, and thus complete the process of physical installation.

Miniaturized structure

Each Fibaro System module is only 42.5 mm long, 37.0 mm wide and 15.9 mm high, which makes them the world’s smallest devices of this type. Some other advantages of the Fibaro System include neat appearance, reliability and perfection.

FGS-212 Features:

Single relay switch capable of operating a load of up to 2.5KW (10A).

  • Controlled through other Fibaro devices or any Z-Wave controller
  • The smallest device of this type in the World!
  • Requires 3-wire (including neutral) installation - further information is in our 2-wire/3-wire guide
  • Can use mains or alternative power supply for load (including DC)
  • Works with AC power supply only (110-230V AC)
  • Second switch input for controlling additional associated devices or 2-way installations (see note)

Note: Using Second Switch Input

The Single Relay (1x2.5KW) allows a second switch to be connected to the module which can be used to control an additional Z-Wave device associated with the Fibaro module or in a 2-way lighting installation. More information is available: Application Note 18 - Using a Secondary Switch with a Fibaro Module.

Simple and easy
When used for a simple switch it wires in easily and works first time. In 2 way switching it is more complex and needs mods to the device handler to work with SmartThings

Works perfectly
I have used a number of these devices to control garden lights, electric radiators and LED strips. They are easy to fit (not least because they are very small and therefore easy to hide away) they integrate well with my Vera Edge controller and they also work well with ordinary light switches so are seamless in use. Highly recommended.

Needs an on/off switch with Indigo
With Indigo 6.4.1 the only option is to use an on/off switch for manual override, whereas the 2 X 1.5kW version can be used with either an on/off switch or momentary action switch

While Fibaro looks to me a questionable software maker (I happily run out of HC to Domoticz more than a year ago) its hardware has been very reliable to me. I own many of its devices and have little/no issues with them.

Used with Smartthings hub to control my Hormann garage door controller. Setup with a smartapp that makes it act as a push button in parralel to the existing physical button. this allows automatic open/close when car presence sensor is used

If I understand this correctly, I should be able to install this behind a fused spur switch to control a 1kw electric radiator? Also, the instructions talk about the antennae being situated away from metal. This is a bit hard to avoid with a metal back box - is it likely to work?
Richard 8 Aug 2016
BEST ANSWER: There should be no problem using it to control an electric radiator. I haven't tried this, but as the spur is switched you should be able to install the relay in the same way as you do for a light switch so that you can use the switch as well as the relay to control the radiator. This means that when you press the switch it will toggle the radiator to the opposite state (on/off), rather than being fixed to 'up is on, down is off'. If you have a neon light on the switch it won't be useful anymore. Alternatively, you can wire the relay to the radiator without connecting the switch; in this case it should be installed before the switch (because an electrician would expect the switch to isolate the radiator so that it can be worked on safely). Agree with a previous reply that the metal box could cause problems. You could try poking the aerial through any available hole in the box but this is unlikely to improve matters very much.
When I use this with a single toggle switch for an overhead light does the light switch have to be left switched on for the relay to work?

BEST ANSWER: If you didn't change the default parameters for the relay, the switch and the relay will work as tow way switch. In another word, when you switch on or off the switch it will change the current state for the relay also. So no need to do any thing with the relay just using it as normal use.
Would this module be suitable for controlling my garage door which has a momentary switch to open and shut it? I guess it needs to a) be able to act as a momentary switch and b) be able to control a load that is not mains voltage...
markstickley 3 May 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes it is. The Fibaro relays both have dry contacts and have an integrated timer to allow it to mimic a momentary switch. We even have a guide on how to use them with a typical garage door system (just as you're looking to do) - http://www.vesternet.com/resources/application-notes/apnt-124
How can I connect a Fibaro Relay Insert 1 * 2.5 KW to 2 switches (staircase solution) with momentary buttons (springs)? Can someone please post a circuit diagram. Thank you in advance./Mike
Michael S. 26 Mar 2016
BEST ANSWER: Using momentary is easy in this situation. We've not git a diagram showing this for the relay, but we do have one for the Dimmer 2 - figure 4 - http://www.vesternet.com/resources/application-notes/apnt-92 This should help you with the relay. You simply have the momentary switches in parallel with each other. This is also called a "daisy chain". So each switch is wired back to the same terminals on the relay or to each switch.
Is it good for controlling a boiler ( On / Off ) ?
7 Jan 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have a 2 x 1.5 KW module wired in parallel to the external timer controller for the hot water and central heating system. That way, I can override whatever the timer is doing if I want some extra heat outside of the predetermined hours. In fact, I've gone a bit further than that, and the entire hot water and central heating schedule is now controlled by my Vera 3. It's only switching a small signal - hardly any current passes through the heating controller.
