Smartest Home - PRO Compatible

  • Checks if a window or door is left open
  • Alerts you if something unexpected happens
  • Connects to your smart home and smartphone

Check your home entrances before you turn on the alarm.

Make sure that all doors and windows are closed, no matter where you are.

Be notified if you forget to close any entrance on your way out

Get notified when your kids are back from school.

Be sure to know if something unexpected happens.

Connect strips to other Z-Wave™ products and services.

Strips uses a magnetic sensor to sense if a window/door is opened or closed. With Strips in every window and door you get full perimeter protection. With Strips you can easily check that all windows and doors are closed, it alerts you if something unexpected happens and it can be connected with other smart home devices using Z-Wave technology.

Invisible and simple mounting:

The days of drilling and wires are gone! At just under 3 mm, Strips fits invisibly between the door/window and its frame. All you have to do is connect Strips to a Z-Wave gateway, then use the adhesive backing to stick the magnet to the door or window and the sensor to the frame.

Indoor & outdoor usage:

Strips is designed for both indoor and outdoor environments. That means you can use Strips for all your windows & doors, but also to monitor your storage or garage door.

Don’t forget:

With a battery that has a lifespan of up to ten years it's easy to forget about the sensor once it's mounted. But, the sensor keeps track of the remaining power in the battery and will let you know when it’s running low.

Strips is Z-Wave Plus certified. Z-Wave enables communication between smarthome devices, Strips can talk to you through your smart phone. In order to do this, you will need a Z-Wave gateway to include Strips into your smarthome network.

Z-Wave Plus

The Z-Wave Sensative Strips Door/Window Sensor is Z-Wave Plus Certified. Z-Wave Plus (5th Generation Z-Wave) offers a lot of new features including increased range, extended battery life and Over The Air upgrading (OTA). Take a look at our "What is Z-Wave Plus" guide for more information

Regret buying
Waste of money - Cannot get this to work on a standard UPVC door - Tried multiple positions, but the magnet does not seem strong enough to activate the relay. Only way to get it working was to build up multiple strips of 3M tape to close the gap between the sensor and the magnet - Not workable. Going back to standard magnetic contacts!

Great little device - initially. Beware batter life
Despite some issues getting it paired with Vera, my 2 paired easily with Indigo but have both died now only 18 months since purchase and with less than 6 months actuall install time. Other than reviews here after initial install, its becoming clear on some forums that life expectancy is far short of the 10 years claimed, and very expensive for a device that lasts less than a year. Also once fitted, it cant be moved as the adhesive pulls the unit apart.

Good Product. Excellent Customer Service.
Good product. Prompt and follow-up response from Vesternet shows their customer service excellence. After the initial pairing with the Vera Plus Controller, follow the Vesternet’s Application Notes of “Using Sensitive Strips in VERA UI7” in the Resources section of their website for the device parameters setup. Then your Strips started responding to the events.

Excellent! Just Excellent!
These little Sensors are a marvel. Picked up by Smartthings without issue and have performed as expected for several months now. They are super stealthy, simply invisible. I have 9 of them on all external doors which are mainly UPVC Metal Framed, not a single missed alert from any of them, the furthest door being ~50m from the hub. I did install the strips on the actual door and the magnet on the frame, that way the strips become more exposed when the door opens which may help with the signal of course. The only thing I have to obviously reserve judgement on is the battery life but if they even last half as long as stated then I will still be more than happy in comparison to some of the external sensors which use pretty expensive (non button) batteries. By the time they do run out hopefully they will have rechargeable ones on the market and I would not hesitate to buy those. If you are looking for a solution then I highly recommend giving these a try, buy one and test it on your furthest door, trust me, you will come back for more :-)

The invisible sensor
Works 100% with Indigo 7, no problem including it into the Aeon Labs Z-Stick USB Controller - Gen5. Instant response for open and close. If only other Z-Wave modules were this easy.

brilliant sensor, but headache to install with vera
Well to be fair , it works fine now perfectly with my vera. but note its not in the vera compatibility list of products, hence i got help from vesternet team, with parameters needed in device setting etc, and also from vera support. it took few days but in the end its well worth it ill give 4 stars because i had issues at 1st , and including and excluding was not a smooth ride at all

Not supported by Vera plus (FW: 1.7.2138)
The sensor looks great and is easy to install. While it might work great on other system, I would not recommend it to be used with the Vera Plus controller. I'm running Firmware: 1.7.2138 on my Vera Plus and could not get this sensor to work. Before you buy this check the compatibility information on the Vera home page. I know that Vesternet has published a hint, how to configure this sensor with Vera systems, but that might be for oder Vera Firmware versions and not for the Version I currently have. My Fibaro (FGK-10x) door and window sensors are running great with Vera Plus. Once again, the Sensative sensor is great if you are not on the Vera plus controller.

Makes for a much tidier installations
Is incredibly easy to set up, especially if you set your z-wave controller to include mode before you remove the magnets from the packaged unit as this sets them to inclusion mode. I've connected them to a Vera Plus and used the Vesternet handy guide to get them working correctly as they are not supported on that controller. So far so good with them although it has only been a couple of weeks. Make sure you keep the round magnet that come with them so that you can wake them up when making configuration changes.

Really cool invisible sensor
I've installed one to my balcony door. My controller is Vera Edge and doesn't support Sensative Strips out of the box. So you need to make some manual configurations but it's not that hard. Vesternet has a good article about manual configuration. You can search for that. My Balcony door has recess ledges but I managed to install the strips. You need to test the module before sticking it to the ledge. I used tapes for temporary stick. It works flawlessly and the sensor is totally invisible. I'll install one to my second balcony door. Thanks to Vesternet and Sensative for this great product.

Great design but numerous connectivity issues with Vera
This is a great design, given the small dimensions. It was easy to pair with my Vera Lite unit, and a little fiddly to configure but I got there in the end; I had to pair/unpair almost 1/2 dozen times before I got it properly configured (as per guide on this sit) and working. Unfortunately, after fitting the device to my front door, which is only < 20 ft away behind a brick wall, my Vera unit is now reporting that it cannot communicate with the device, and then "ERROR: Unable to get any information on node". I don't know what to do now as there doesn't appear to be any support offered on the Sensitive website. My Vera unit is rather temperamental to say the least, so not sure where the root of the issue is.

Does what it says on the tin...
Needless to say, bit tough to evaluate battery life yet so that one will have to wait! Bought one of these in the sale for my side gate since it claims to be weatherproof. Installation was straight forward and adding to my SmartThings hub v2 was very simple. It seems to work well so far, the adhesive stuck quite happily to the wood of my gate and once installed it's very nice and discreet. I'm starting to wish I had picked up a couple more for my doors during the sale, really is nice to have such an unobtrusive sensor. My only gripe would be that it seems a shame to have to throw away such an expensive device just for want of a battery, even if it is in 10 years time... I guess that's the price you pay for style!

So simple and just works!
After using 3 Fibaro door sensors for a few years, thought I'd give these a whirl and see what they are like. Followed the instructions and for them included I under a minute from my phone. A lot quicker to include than the Fibaro. Had to install under the door in my house as this is the only place I could get it to fit (French patio doors) and all is working AOK. I'd love to find out what the test factors were used for the 10 year battery life. My wife is a smoker and we don't smoke in the house. The door must be opened and closed about 10 times throughout the day and this will test the battery life. With regards signal; the Fibaro HC2 is about 3 meters from the SS so this should help battery life to. Hope this helps some people. Regards, HALLAMNET

Great Door Sensors
After automatic inclusion, I changed the device_file and device_json to D_DoorSensor1.xml. I also changed category_num and subcategory_num to 4 and 1 respectively. In the options screen, I created parameters 1 and 2 and set them both to be 0. Hopefully, shutting down the LED should help preserve battery life. I now have a device that looks and acts like a traditional door sensor in the Vera UI.

Perfect for UPVC Doors
I've always had problems fitting sensors to upvc external doors because of the angular trim, the sensor and magnet were obvious and unsightly. These strips are just what I needed, hidden and working perfectly with my homeseer system.

Fiddly and not robust but impressive tech at this size
These are not designed to be moved, so you only get one shot at fitting them. They're actually quite delicate due to the thinness of the casing and it will crack if you try and prize them off (unfortunately I learnt this the hard way when it failed to work after fitting!). They can also be fiddly to pair with a controller. In my case a SmartThings Hub v2, but got it working in the end and the range is rather impressive - working outside at some distance from the hub. Tip: spend some time before fitting the device to test placement of magnets - the instructions are poor and it's not immediately obvious where the ideal contact point is on the strip before it sends a close or open command (about an inch from the top in my experience).

Not a Z wave plus device it appears
This is new innovative design using older Z wave technology. Since it is security related it's particularly important that it incorporated Z wave plus security features, not to mention range and other benefits. At £50 it's expensive and I'll be giving it a miss until price and features become attractive.

Pleasantly Surprised
These little strip's are great! Battery life I will update you on in about 2-3 years hopefully :) easy installation... Well packaged! Small gripe! They have to be accurately lined up and the magnets do not like working if placed on metal... Possibly something to do with poles? Reversing? Who knows but yes simple and mess free with a good range as well! In fact range seems to be superior to all Fibaro battery operated devices!

Very good discreet sensor to help secure windows and doors, really like the fact they can be added to an outside gate to monitor those, and the team at sensitive are very helpful, one of my strips had two round magnets and no rectangular magnet meaning I couldn't install as I wanted, I contacted them and they sent me one straight away.

Has anyone managed to pair this with VeraPlus? Have performed pairing as per manual, 'woken' the sensor up as per a guide on here to make the generic device act like a open/close sensor. Then the sensor just doesn't communicate. Appreciate help here.

Can this be used on a metal door? I've seen a few other sensors that say they can't...
pmajor 10 Dec 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, sensor can be used on a metal door, but it should be close to the controller or other z-wave device. stable operation at a distance 80cm. Initial setting of sensor should be close to the z-wave controller.
Do these strips work with Indigo 6?
Alan C. 3 Oct 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't think so they haven't added it last time I checked I have two sitting in a draw waiting till they do
Can anybody confirm that these can be used outdoors please? I'm assuming they're a sealed unit so should be suitable for external use.
Huw T. 10 Apr 2016
BEST ANSWER: I use one on an external window, the sensor is exposed to the outside temperature and works fine although I imagine it will degrade the battery over the winter months. I cannot speak for its waterproofing but the adhesive on the back is on the pcb to keep it thin so it isnt completely sealed. I personally wouldn't use it on a garden gate for example but it might work if you could mount it so it wasn't directly rained on. Hope this helps.
Does this work with smartthings?
Guest Visitor 26 Jan 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi this is Mats from Sensative. We have seen that some user had problem with Smartthings, while it has worked fine for most users. The problem is related to timing in the communication between Smartthings GW and Strips and your settings, SW version and number of included devices affects the timing. We have identified the cause of the problem and managed to make a workaround for it in Strips. The fix is included in shipments from our factory since this week. If you have problems. Try first to upgrade your gateway to the latest firmware. If that does not solve your problem, please contact us. Our mail address can be found at our webpage. /mats
Hi. Is it compatible with Fibaro HC2?
Martin G. 14 Jan 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, this works fine in HC2. We're tested it and works well in v4.xx We show it on the Z-Wave Compatibility Guide -
Is this for a set of three sticks or just one, as this price point seems very expensive for a single window sensor, given people typically have far more windows in their houses than doors?
Guest Visitor 18 Dec 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hi, The price is for one door/window sensor. Hope that helps.
Can the battery be recharged or does the whole unit need to be replaced when the battery dies?
Guest Visitor 17 Dec 2015
BEST ANSWER: It does need replacing when the battery dies but it has a 10 year life expectancy.
