A dimmer module works by adjusting the voltage waveform applied to a light source, which in turn alters the light's brightness. Most modern dimmers use a method called "phase-cutting" to rapidly switch the current on and off, either at the leading or trailing edge of the AC sine wave, effectively reducing the power delivered to the light. This allows users to control the intensity of the light without affecting its color.
