ZigBee, a specification for a suite of high-level communication protocols, is built on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard and consists of four main layers: the Physical Layer (PHY), which handles the radio transmission and reception of data; the Medium Access Control Layer (MAC), which manages access to the radio channel and ensures reliable data delivery; the Network Layer, responsible for routing and network formation; and the Application Layer, which provides the interface for user applications and services. These layers work together to enable low-power, low-data-rate wireless communication suitable for IoT and automation applications.
