A hub is a basic networking device that connects multiple computers or devices in a local area network (LAN), allowing them to communicate with each other. It operates at the physical layer and simply forwards data packets to all connected devices without any filtering or routing intelligence. In contrast, a gateway acts as a bridge between different networks, often operating at the network layer, and can translate communication protocols, enabling devices on one network to communicate with devices on another network.
