Why does my Z-Wave.me MTEMP Temperature Sensor show up as a light bulb in a Vera Lite or Vera 3 Z-Wave Controller?

Quite often Vera will decide what the type of a device is based on the "Command Classes" that the device reports that it supports. This can sometimes mean that a device that supports multiple different Command Classes will be classified incorrectly by Vera.

Solution

Frequently the incorrectly classified device will only result in a "cosmetic" issue in the Vera UI, the actual device will function perfectly. Unfortunately for this particular device, the icon in the Vera UI is completely unrelated to the function the device is supposed to have!

Fortunately, it is actually possible to change the "device_file" for the device so that it shows a more appropriate icon in the Vera UI.

To do this, click on the "Spanner" icon for the device in the Vera UI and select the "Advanced" tab. Change the "device_file" to "D_TemperatureSensor1.xml" (without the quotes):

Once completed, follow any prompts in Vera to "SAVE" and then wake-up the device to allow Vera to configure it (if required). The icon should now correctly show the temperature data:
