How difficult are the products to use and install?

QuestionInstallation and Use Difficulty

All your products look great, but how easy are they to actually use?

All Vesternet's products can be used by an amateur and are suitable for DIY installation. However, some can be more difficult to install than others.

For instance a battery operated sensor is incredibly easy to install as it can be placed anywhere with no wiring, on the other hand a dimmer module will be more difficult as it requires wiring into your mains electrical system.

To highlight this - each product has two icons, each showing how easy or difficult a device is to Install and Use.

Installation Difficulty

This icon shows how easy or difficult a device is to physically install, all battery devices are graded as 1 or 2, and all devices that must be wired into an existing circuit are shown as 3 or higher.

1. Very Easy - usually battery operated sensors that can be mounted anywhere.
2. Easy - may require removing an existing device such as a radiator thermostat (TRV).
3. Straightforward - installs into existing wiring circuits such as light circuits.
4. Hard - requires some changes to existing wiring system.
5. Advanced - existing wiring may require significant changes.

Use Difficulty

Using and configuring the devices is usually straightforward.

If we feel they can be difficult to configure, then we will usually have an Application Note guiding you through the process. In some cases, using the devices with other components can become complex - for instance multi-zone heating with each zone activating the boiler can be difficult to set-up and will rely on the users ability to create control scenes in the system's central controller.

Therefore, the use difficulty will depend on how you wish to use the device, we have assumed a typical installation and system when grading the devices.

1. Very Easy - uncomplicated device with few configuration options.
2. Easy - device may have more configuration options.
3. Straightforward - lots of configuration options and may be confusing to configure (we will usually have an application note for these devices).
4. Hard - requires planning and scenes to use in common scenarios.
5. Advanced - may require complex scenes to enable it to work in the system how you wish - such as mulit-zone heating.
Always check the products 'Manuals and Guides' tab - this will show you all Application Note and Knowledgebase articles for that device.

Installing the many devices will involve working with 240V mains wiring. We provide application notes that illustrate common wiring systems, however, if you have no experience in working with electricity you should consult a qualified electrician. All work is are carried out at your own risk, Vesternet do not accept any responsibility or liability.
