KB-65 - What real-world range Z-Wave devices have?

Question

What “real-world” range Z-Wave devices have?

Answer

Point-to-point range in Z-Wave is typically quoted as being 30 metres in open air but this can be massively reduced inside a building where interior walls, floors, furniture, etc can attenuate the RF signal by as much as 80%, reducing the range down to a handful of meters.

We decided it was a good idea to perform some test in a “real-world” environment and check if the devices live up to expectations – our results can be found here.
