Oil tank alarm
I used a window and door sensor plus a inline relay to detect someone opening the lid of my oil tank. The output of the inline relay then operates a 230v relay. The break contacts of which are wired to my alarm panel. Bit of a sledge hammer to crack a walnut! Why another relay? The output of the inline relay appears to be sets 2 of make contacts with the travellers joined. Problem is when there is a power failure both sets of contacts are open circuit which if wired to the alarm panel would give an alarm condition hence the need for second relay.

Works really well
The light switches in my kitchen were on the wall opposite the doors. Using the inline relay and RF switches we are now able to switch the lights on/off by both kitchen doors. I am now planning to relocate the light switch in the lounge which currently resides behind the door.

How can i use this to control a ceiling light that is not dimmable? and would i need one per non-dimmable light, or can one relay link to a number of lights?
Pritesh G. 29 Sep 2016
BEST ANSWER: They are just like a light switch. One relay can control a number of lights if they are all on same switched circuit currently e.g. kitchen under-cabinet lighting. To use them in ceiling lighting individually would require re-wiring the ceiling rose wiring and trying to find space above the ceiling close to the rose. An alternative for switched multiple lights are to replace the light switches with LightwaveRF wireless switches and replace the light bulbs with dimmable ones. Another is to replace the bulbs with LightwaveRF CFL bulbs which are self-dimmable and have the LightwaveRF control built-in - but these can be difficult to obtain.
how to connect the decvice for a ceiling light. can you show the wiring required?

BEST ANSWER: It depends. If you have a neutral in the backbox behind the wall switch, then it is straightforward. Connect the permanent live, neutral and earth, then the switched live to the L2 output. But - not many UK houses have a neutral in the backbox. In this case, you either need to chase out the wall and put some 3core&earth down (giving permanent live, switched live, neutral, earth), or instead, install the relay in the ceiling next to the ceiling rose. Obviously this makes it trickier when you want to pair a new remote to it. Or - use a dimmer instead which doesn't need a neutral. This would have to be used with a conventional incandescent or halogen bulb.
