Works really well
The heating system in our village hall had been working well when we suddenly experienced a strange phenomenon; users who had been demanding their rooms were at a particular temperature in the winter were now complaining that the rooms (set to the SAME temperature) were too hot in summer!! It seems that seeing the requested temperature set to, say, 21degs when they were too warm, even though the room temperature was due to the weather and the heating in the room was off, leads to accusations of wasting fuel etc. Rather than try to explain to the uninitiated, I decided to fit the sensor to the Qubino relay that controls the boiler to monitor the outside temperature and when it is 20degs or above, set all setpoints for all the rooms to be 14degs. Since doing that, there have been no more comments! To reach the outside, we had to make an extension lead but I think the normal advice given is to simply splice some extra cable into the lead which is far easier. It's a shame that someone does not make some extension leads as these could be quite useful because these one-wire sensors will work over up to 30m of wire in the right conditions.

Does its Job
Very easy to use and set up, I use it to control my bathroom kick space heater using max and min temp settings, and on a time schedule. Great add on unit.

Have had nothing but trouble with these modules!
I have bought 6 of these over the years and quite honestly getting them to work with my VERA is more trouble than it's worth - but unfortunately there is nothing else out there that does the same job in such a small package! The first generation versions required a "hack" extra service to get it to work in Auto mode. This second generation now has a Template in Vera and appears to work correctly but does not display the probe temperature!

What connectors do I need to order to extend this cable? I can get them from Farnell or RS if I know what are used. I'm assuming that this is a 1-wire sensor as it has three wires, pwr, gnd and the 1-wire bus, and that means that it can be extended to quite a few metres and I need to pick up the outside temperature...

Can the cable be extended? I need one with an 8m cable.

BEST ANSWER: It's a advertised as digital so I see no reason why it cannot be extended. However, consider correct polarity and keep away from running in parallel with other AC wiring as it could pick up noise. One other thing, I'm not sure the sensor is electrically isolated from the Qubino module (I've asked Qubino support). I suspect not as this would take some space up on module. I'm surprised there's no electrical safety notes on the sensor for a CE marked product.
How do you use this module?

BEST ANSWER: Plug it into a Qubino module that can take it. The details are on the module descriptions here, or look at Qubino's website if unsure, they have instructions there.
