Wireless Z-Wave Control on Tap of a Finger

The Aeotec WallMote is a Z-Wave scene controller, capable of controlling hundreds of devices of more than a dozen Z-Wave scenes. When connected to your Z-Wave Controller, get creative with personalized control combinations of your lights, appliances, and Z-Wave devices.

Design focused and battery-operated, the Aeotec WallMote lets you directly control 16 different Z-Wave scenes each with more than 15 devices in them. With touch and touch slide capabilities, WallMote offers unparalleled functionalities for your modern smart home. The Quad WallMote from Aeotec is a portable, wall-mounted, smart Z-Wave remote controller.

Its surface is fitted with an RGB LED to indicate button actions, that are also accompanied by audible feedback and vibration. The WallMote Quad is also a security Z-Wave device and supports Over The Air (OTA) feature for the product firmware upgrade.

Control on Tap of a Finger

Whether you control one or many Z-Wave devices - you can do it all with a single tap.

Each of WallMote’s button can be programmed to control one or a few Z-Wave devices. A single tap on its smooth WallMote surface can change a single light or a whole room.

Each button is touch sensitive, meaning you can access new commands and control scenes simply by holding your finger a little longer.

Wireless switch

WallMote and WallMote Quad offer a fine-tuned antenna capable of communicating over an open range of over 150 metres.

Always up-to-date

Both WallMote and WallMote Quad are capable of receiving wireless firmware updates via Z-Wave Plus so that they are always up to date.

Extremly elegant

With its minimalist design that measures just 7.7cm wide and a slender 1.9cm deep, both WallMote and WallMote Quad are perfectly balanced.

Rechargable battery

Without the need to ever change a battery, WallMote and WallMote Quad are both powered by a rechargeable lithium battery that can easily be recharged via the provided micro USB cable.

Haptic feedback

When you press WallMote’s touch glass you will feel the change -even you may not even be present to see things change. WallMote’s haptic engine confirms your every action via a click sensation.

As a part of Aeotec’s Gen5 range of Z-Wave devices, Wallmote was built upon the latest version of Z-Wave- Z-Wave Plus. Cutting-edge performance and security is crafted into this most advanced battery-powered wall switch.

Wireless wall switch for wireless home control

Because of its directly communication with your Z-Wave gateway, WallMote can be used to control anything that your gateway can. Even things that are not Z-Wave like Smart lighting from Philips Hue or Connected music from Sonos. This means that if it is connected to your gateway, you may simply add it to a scene that WallMote can control.

Good switch but takes time to get working properly
I purchased the Wallmote quad a few months ago with a Vera and some Fibaro dimmers to install a Z Wave system in a couple of rooms whilst doing some home improvements. After a LOT of effort I've finally got the Wallmote working with Vera UI7. I use 2 of the "switches" to act as dimmers and the other 2 to activate scenes. In summary, it's a great looking switch which works particularly well for controlling lights by association. However, it is painful to get working with Vera (see tips below) and does lack some of the advertised functionality when used with Vera. Note that the battery issue mentioned in other reviews has been fixed with a recent firmware update (although you need an Aeon stick to install this!) and is a no longer a problem on my unit. Pros - Looks great and is the nicest home automation switch I have seen. I particularly like the blue light when pressed. - Magnetic wall plate is very neat and allows easily removal of the Wallmote for charging / remote use. - Dimming lights controlled by association is pretty much instant. Swipe up and down to dim works pretty well but is not that precise. - Can also be used as a scene controller. Cons - The blurb refers to being able to trigger 8 scenes due to the ability to use single and double tap. However double tap functionality is not supported on Vera yet so it actually only controls 4 scenes. - There is a bit of a lag on triggering scenes and sometimes you need to press twice (suspect this is as much about Vera as it is the Wallmote). - I'm pretty technical and getting it to work (a) at all and (b) as a light and scene controller is pretty fiddly (see tips below). However this seems to be a theme for all things Z Wave due to the vast array of manufacturers. Set up tips with Vera UI7 There's pretty good instructions on the Aeon website so I don't plan to replicate these, just add some extra tips I found finally got my Wallmote working. 1. Make sure the firmware is up to date. As noted above you can only do this with a Aeon stick - hopefully new stock will already have the update applied as without it the battery issue renders it unusable. 2. Add the Wallmote to your Vera in encrypted mode. This was the key for me as otherwise it won't associate properly with encrypted devices (e.g. Fibaro dimmers). To do this double click the inclusion button on the Wallmote when adding to the Vera. 3. To use some switches as a scene controller you need to change the json in the advanced settings (see Vera forums for more on this). Do this after you've set up all your associations and you can use some buttons for direct light control and the rest to trigger scenes.

A good looking Switch
I bought 3 of these. Unfortunately one has a battery problem as it lasts only 2 hours where the others lasts days. This seems to be common problem as it has been reported before in a previous review. The look and feel is great for a switch. I have linked it to OpenHab and controlling a few scenes. The linking and configuration was quite easy.

Looks good but poor dimming and battery failed immediately
On arrival the device is well packed. Charged up fine and indicated it was full. Inclusion into HS3 was a bit of a pain as one scene would not add but as it happens the HS3 implementation only uses one of the scenes to communicate all the switches status. I put 3 blinds on one of the switches which revealed that the level of dimming delivered via a finger swipe was quite random and unrelated to either the starting or ending position of your finger. Unfortunately my battery is broken as device only lasts a few hours before it's flat so it has to go back for a replacement.

Finally a good looking wall switch!
Finally a good looking wall switch! Build quality is fine and wall installation was really easy. It even works straight with HC2!
