Z-Wave Popp Smoke detector is the world's first VdS and EN14604 certified smoke sensor that monitors smoke levels and triggers a loud alarm in case of events like fire. The sensor can be used as a part of your Z-Wave security network to trigger pre-configured actions in case of a fire and can even be used as a standalone device.

Smoke Detector

The Z-Wave smoke detector detects resulting fire and smoke emission reliable. In case of emergency it alarms acoustically and sends alarm signal to Z-Wave network so that all other smoke detectors in range can be alarmed. That ensures that the alert also reaches people in all floors as well as in the night while they are sleeping.

Thanks to Z-Wave wireless technology you can define further actions triggered by the smart home control center in case of an alarm. To enhance safety, escape routes can be highlighted with automated lighting and unlocking or locking of shutters and doors.

In case smoke is detected by the smoke detector the device will sound, the red LED will blink and the wireless module will issue a Z-Wave alarm command to the main controller and other associated devices. A low battery will be indicated on short siren noise plus the Z-Wave controller will be informed using Battery Low warning commands.

Indoor Siren

The Z-Wave smoke detector can be used as an independent indoor siren which can be integrated into an existing security system. Within your Z-Wave smart home network the smoke detector can be connected to other sensors such as door and window contacts or motion sensors independently from a control center. In case of an alarm the acoustic signal will be different from the signal in case of fire.

Z-Wave Popp Smoke detector is extremely easy-to-install and comes with auto-calibration and auto-testing capabilities, which makes getting started with the device simple, easy, and convenient. It also comes with tamper-proof protection, wherein the device communicates to Z-Wave controller and triggers a loud alarm in case the device is tinkered without notice.

Z-Wave Plus

The Z-Wave Popp Smoke detector is Z-Wave Plus Certified. Z-Wave Plus (5th Generation Z-Wave) offers a lot of new features including increased range, extended battery life and Over The Air upgrading (OTA). Take a look at our "What is Z-Wave Plus" guide for more information

Simple to install and include with Vera plus
The instalation was straight forward and paired with the Vera plus without any problems. I have it setup so the siren will sound if any of my door sensors or motion detectors are tripped when armed, which appears to be working OK and the siren is a good volume. I also get an alert to my phone if I am not there and can switch the siren off remotely. The smoke alarm is setup to turn on all lights in the house if it is triggered and again will alert my phone. Although I am hoping to never have to find out if this works :-) Overall, first impressions are very good.

It's a smoke detector/alarm!
I've had a problem getting practically any z wave devices to work didn't hold out much hope for the smoke detector. However, it worked easily first time! It's relatively neat...a bit smaller than the Kidde alarms it replaces. I've only installed 2 so far as they are mains and one battery. The battery version is dead easy...the mains pack looks small but isn't quite so small when it comes to making a hole for it in the ceiling (the lead connecting the power supply to the detector is quite short). The alarm works my case it also triggers various lights via the Vera Edge system...all straightforward. Using the siren as a repeater alarm for other items (eg flood sensor, or door sensor) is easy to set up and works. I like the fact that this detector apparently meets UK Building Regulations - which after all are there for a reason -and although the detectors are expensive, Over a period of time I will replace all my existing ordinary units with these Popp z wave devices. Given that Duracell now make batteries with a 10 year life, and the Popp mains pack is expensive/a bit awkward to fit into a ceiling void, I'll probably stay with just battery operation for future detectors except those in awkward places. I've given 4* because I had understood there to be a temperature detector. It may well be there but isn't showing up in any of the icons on the web portal and although it doesn't matter to me, it might matter to you! But as a smoke detector that's intelligent and relatively neat, it seems pretty good albeit a bit expensive. Oh incidentally, other supplied device instructions are to me often incomprehensible ...these for once seem to have been written by someone who speaks English properly!

Item chosen as it is a EN14604 certified smoke sensor which importantly complies with current UK building regulation. Also being mains (12V via PSU) powered with individual standby battery, interlinkable and Z wave makes it ideal. A little pricey compared to other smoke detectors on the market but what price life. And also the ability to be alerted to any potential fire early when away from home can help save the devastation of loosing your home and possessions.

Can these smoke alarms be hard wired interlinked between rooms such as in a HMO?
David M. 18 Oct 2017
I would like to replace my 1st generation Fibaro sensors with these. Given that I have the 12v wiring that powers the Fibaro sensors already in place, can I just install the Popp devices as a straight replacement without the extra mains adapter ?
Asitha R. 17 Oct 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't see why not, if you look at the optional POPP PSU it's just 12V DC output - so an existing 12V DC power supply should work fine. Hope that helps!
How many units can be interlinked ?
Guest Visitor 15 Aug 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi, As far as we're aware there's no limit, because the interlinking is handled with a broadcast to all POPP smoke detectors within range and those in turn broadcast the alert. This is described in the manual at Hope that helps!
Do these detectors come with power connectors supplied or do you have to purchase those separately in order to power it ? If not can you suggest a supplier and part number for the connectors.
Dennis S. 15 Apr 2016
BEST ANSWER: The connects cable is included with the Popp power supply -
does this meet uk building regs ? does anyone do a heat detector zwave tupe ?
Ivor b. Gunn 11 Mar 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes it does. Take a look at our new Smoke Alarm guide, this talks through building regs and the smoke seniors -
If this is powered from the mains, does it also act as a z-wave repeater?
Sarah G. 8 Feb 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes. All Z-Wave devices that are mains powered automatically repeat signals and take an active part in the mesh network.
