The most beautiful and functional flood sensor
Fibaro Flood Sensor - futuristic design, compact size, and a wide variety of additional functions. Fibaro Flood Sensor is simply remarkable! This unique device can guard you and your family's safety. With its advanced technology and precision, the Fibaro Flood Sensor will alert you of a threatening flood, or a rapid temperature rise or drop. All while being maintenance-free without the need for professional installation.
In the beginning there was a drop of water…
The design of the Fibaro Flood Sensor was inspired by the perfect water drop. Every single drop, just like the modules of Fibaro system, can exist individually or they can connect with one another, forming a coherent ecosystem. The shape of a water drop is perfect and flawless, therefore Fibaro sensor's enclosure had to look the same. The Flood Sensor is made of high quality, white, glossy plastic and is perfect in every detail. Its design is extremely functional and the technology gives you endless possibilities.
Perfection in every detail
The Fibaro Flood Sensor is the most technologically advanced, most functional, yet amazingly aesthetic flood sensor available in the world today. Fibaro Flood Sensor was created as a flood sensor equipped with new technology providing safety for you and your family. All of wich closed in a miniature, compact enclosure.
Detects tilt and movement over 15 degrees. It will also alert you of any attempt to move or tamper with the device.
Built in alarm siren will help you react quickly in case of a flood, rapid temperature change, or attempt to tamper with it.
Fibaro Flood Sensor is the only one in the World to perfectly work on uneven surfaces thanks to gold telescopic probes, which are flexible enough to compensate for uneven surface levels.
In / Out
Input terminal allows for connecting an external probe and installing the sensor in any location. Output terminal allows for connection to an alarm system.
Built in temperature sensor may be used to manage a floor heating system or serve as a fire alarm sensor, by detecting rapid temperature rise.
A single battery is enough to power the Sensor for 2.5 years (by using the default settings).
Specially designed enclosure contains a tamper button, protecting it from being opened unintentionally.
Visual Indicator Light
Aside from the alarm siren, the device can alert you of a threat using colour displays from the built in RGB diode.
One sensor, plenty of possibilities
Flood Sensor is a totally uncompromised device. It can be battery or VDC powered, depending on the operating location. The Sensor will work on 12 or 24 VDC. Thanks to the output terminal, Fibaro Flood Sensor can be integrated with any alarm system as well. Input terminal allows for connecting an external contact probe for using the Flood Sensor in places with limited accessibility.
Hard wired or battery powered
You can power the Flood Sensor by 12/24 VDC or a battery which will last 2,5 years.
Alarm systems integration
The Sensor allows for integration with almost any available wired alarm system on the market.
Wired or wireless
The Sensor allows for sending alarm notifications via wires or wirelessly.
Dual Tamper protection
Fibaro Flood Sensor is beautiful, which makes it desirable to grab and take a closer look. Any movement or relocation can stop the sensor from serving its role, that's why it will be detected thanks to the built-in motion detector. Any attempt to open it will be detected resulting in a report being sent to the main controller as well. Mind you, this is a very important device, bearing huge responsibility, monitoring your home and helping you react quickly.
It's crucial to quickly detect potential threats of a breakdown. With the Fibaro Flood Sensor's compact size, various powering and alarm system communication possibilities, you are guaranteed to be the first one to know about a breakdown and flooding threat. The Sensor may be installed in hard-to-reach places. It can work in any location you need. Even if it can't be installed in the precise spot needed, you can always connect a wired probe (not included) to detect the leak in its best probable location.
Gold telescopic probes
Fibaro Flood Sensor is equipped with three ultra sensitive probes, plated with 24-karat gold. Sophisticated telescopic mechanism allows for placing the Sensor in any location, even on an uneven surface. Gold plating prevents the probes from corroding and provides the best precise liquid detection. All this allows you to respond quickly, before the breakdown outcome gets serious.
Opened enclosure alarm
For safety reasons, Fibaro Flood Sensor's enclosure is protected from being opened, turned off or destroyed. Detecting any tampering will result in household members being notified by SMS, Push or e-mail.
Flooding threat detected by the Fibaro Flood Sensor may result in Fibaro System automatically responding by closing water supply to prevent damage. It's enough to install a solenoid valve in your hydraulic system. The System will be able to operate it automatically via Fibaro Relay Switch connected to it. The Fibaro Flood Sensor in couple with a solenoid valve and a Relay Switch module, means a peace of mind for you, and safety for your home.
Visual Colour Display
One look is enough to find out what happened, thanks to the coloured indicator light. Depending on the Flood Sensor's built-in LED illuminated colour, you will know whether the Sensor has detected water, or a decrease / increase in temperature. With its built-in Z-Wave range tester you can easily determine whether the place you chose for the Sensor allows for communicating with the main controller or maybe you will have to use an external wired probe, to ensure the Sensor's proper operation.
Small leaks by the bathtub drain or a tiny puddle next to the washing machine drain, definitely should peak your interest. However what to do when the tub is already built in, and leaks are too small to be seen? It's better to be safe than sorry, and set up a Fibaro System. Flood Sensor is a perfect solution in any location that you might suspect a leak to occur, even if access to the location is very difficult. Such a place might be in a built-in bathtub by the drain, built-in washing machine or dishwasher. Install the Fibaro Flood Sensor in hard to reach areas and have peace of mind. If even the smallest leak will appear, you will get advanced warning on your smartphone and you'll be able to call an expert.
Difficult to submerge
The sensor is designed to work in the toughest conditions. It works properly at low or high temperatures, from -10°C to 95°C (when using the proper battery). It can handle any type of flood, whether it be fast or slow. The enclosure is waterproof, allowing for direct contact with the liquid and prevents submersion which would cause it to stop communicating. Only this type of sensor can guarantee your safety.
Floor heating is an amazing comfort for people and unfortunately a nightmare for the individual to control correctly. It is very difficult to determine the optimal temperature and turn off the heating at the right time to avoid uncomfortable temperatures. Thanks to the integrated temperature sensor, the Fibaro Flood Sensor will help you manage your floor heating. The Fibaro Home Center 2 will ensure that the temperature is ideal for your family's comfort, all while being as energy efficient as possible.
It will prevent icing
Because the Fibaro Flood Sensor has no problem handling the harshest conditions, You can easily use it in front of Your house to control the temperature of your driveway. If your driveway is sloped, even the smallest amount of ice can cause your car to skid when you are leaving your garage. Icing can cause a lot of unnecessary accidents. The Fibaro Flood Sensor was perfectly designed to work with warming mats to prevent even the smallest formation of ice around your house.
Helps you detect a fire
Fibaro Flood Sensor is not afraid of extreme temperatures. Any sudden temperature change will trigger an alarm in the control panel and the household will be alerted about it immediately on their mobile device. Thankfully the Fibaro Flood sensor can help detect a fire in its early stages, especially if there are any unknown problems with your current fire detectors. The Fibaro Flood Sensor is the perfect additional level of support for your fire alarm system.
A Perfect Combination
Advanced device associations and extended scenes will allow Your Home Center 2 Control Panel to independently take appropriate steps immediately after detecting a risk of flooding or fire. Even after the smallest liquid detection near the washing machine, the Flood Sensor will send a signal to a Relay Switch which will cut off the solenoid water valve, and disconnect the washing machine which is connected to a Fibaro Wall Plug. In case of fire detection, a Relay Switch disconnects the solenoid gas valve, the control panel ensures lights that mark your escape route are illuminated, and the ventilation system runs at maximum level to get rid of the smoke. These are just some of the possibilities when you associate modules and devices in the Fibaro System.
Fibaro Flood Sensor has been designed to get firmware updates automatically without any need for action taken from the individual user. Automatic software updates gives you convenience and piece of mind with the Fibaro System.
Z-Wave network range tester
For your safety and security, and to make sure the flood sensor is working properly, it has been equipped with a built-in Z-Wave network range tester. Communication in wireless Z-Wave mesh network lets you stay connected with the control panel over a long distance and through indirect connectivity, using other Z-wave modules. Built-in LED will allow you to easily check if the sensor has a good range and can communicate with the Fibaro System or requires a different location.
The Z-Wave Fibaro Flood Sensor Gen5 is Z-Wave Plus Certified. Z-Wave Plus (5th Generation Z-Wave) offers a lot of new features including increased range, extended battery life and Over The Air upgrading (OTA). Take a look at our "What is Z-Wave Plus" guide for more information
What is Z-Wave, Z-Wave Plus, Z-Wave S2, Z-Wave SmartStart and Z-Wave Plus V2
Z-Wave is a wireless communication technology that uses reliable, low-power radio waves that easily travel through walls, floors and furniture, meaning you don't have to rip-up carpets and floors to add new wiring.
Features such as two-way communication, status updates and mesh networking combine together to ensure reliability and resiliency in your Home Automation system - no more wondering whether the light in your garage really turned off when you closed the door!
Using Z-Wave enables you to easily create a modern smart home, giving you control of your lights, appliances, heating, security and multimedia at the touch of a button.
Z-Wave is the leading wireless home automation technology offering significant benefits compared to older technologies
Two-way wireless communication - all messages acknowledged, if one gets lost it is automatically repeated
Status updates - you know the status of every device on the system (lights, heating, appliances...)
Mesh networking - automatically covers dead-spots, great for large installations
Easy control - use a remote control, central controller, smartphone apps or via the Internet
There is one area to bear in mind with Z-Wave - the RF frequency ranges used are different in each territory due to regulatory requirements in the sub-1GHz band. In Europe Z-Wave devices all use the 868.42MHz frequency and this is the type of devices that Vesternet sells. These will not work with Z-Wave devices or Z-Wave Controllers that use different frequencies! For further information see the Silicon Labs reference.
Z-Wave Plus is a new certification program designed to help consumers identify products that take advantage of the recently introduced "Next Gen" Z-Wave hardware platform, also know as 500 Series, 5th Generation, Z-Wave for Gen5 or just plain Gen5. Z-Wave Plus certified solutions feature a selected set of extended features and capabilities that enhance the end user experience and make Z-Wave systems even faster and easier to install and set up.
Z-Wave Plus improves on the original specifications of Z-Wave by making use of the latest advancements in this exciting technology. With the introduction of the Next-Gen, Z-Wave has extended its capabilities, including increased range, extended battery life, Over The Air upgrading (OTA), additional RF channels and more - all of which are fully backwards compatible with existing Z-Wave products. These enhancements offer tremendous benefits in terms of shorter and easier installations, richer device profiles, improved self-healing and longer battery life.
Z-Wave Plus extended features include:
Greater Range - significant increase in range, now up to 150m (clear air)
Lower Power Requirements - 50% improvement in battery life
More RF Bandwidth - 250% more
Stability - three F channels for improved noise immunity and higher bandwidth
Easier Inclusion & Exclusion of devices - new Plug-n-Play Network-wide Inclusion feature
Reliability - improved self-healing and fault tolerance with Explorer Frame network discovery
Firmware Updates - standardised method for Over the Air firmware updates (OTA)
Device Data - improved product information capture for product certification database
The new features of the Z-Wave Plus devices are a great extension to Z-Wave and will help you make the most robust, solid wireless home automation system possible. But, you need to be a little careful of expectations - especially as the first devices are introduced using the new features and command classes available in the Z-Wave 500 series chips.
If you have a complete Z-Wave Plus system, where every device is of the new Gen5 variety, then you wouldn't have any issues. They would work together seamlessly (better than any Z-Wave system so far), and you would get all the benefits that the new features offer such as extended battery life, much longer range and increased bandwidth.
However, if you're mixing with existing Z-Wave devices, sensors and controllers based on the 300-series and 400-series Z-Wave chips then it does mean that you may miss out on some of the benefits of the Gen5 devices.
The battery life for Z-Wave Plus devices is significantly improved over previous generations. It doesn't rely on any other devices in the system, therefore, you should see the extended battery life offered by Z-Wave Plus devices - up to 50% longer than existing devices.
The range of devices relies heavily on other devices in the network. If you are using a mix of Z-Wave Plus and existing devices you may not see the increase in range offered by Z-Wave Plus.
The main consideration is the Z-Wave controller - if the controller is not Z-Wave Plus enabled than all devices added to that controller's network will default to acting as Z-Wave. This is because Z-Wave Plus is backwards compatible with Z-Wave, so when Z-Wave Plus devices are installed with Z-Wave devices they behave just like a Z-Wave device.
If you do have a Z-Wave Plus controller, then you should start to see the benefits of Z-Wave Plus, as long as other devices in any "routes" to the Z-Wave Plus device are also Z-Wave Plus. Otherwise, the device will again default to operating as a plain Z-Wave device.
S2 is an extension to the security framework of Z-Wave Plus devices. It enables manufacturers to offer best-in-class security without any compromises in terms of power consumption or latency.
Sigma worked hand-in-hand with cybersecurity experts to develop the actual specification for the S2 extension that gives Z-Wave devices new levels of security. While Z-Wave already leads in security with AES 128-bit encryption level, which is available to all devices, S2 improves this by adding full diffe-hellman symmetric encryption to the key exchange as well as using a single command structure that replaces the previous three-step process, which reduces latency and improves battery life for devices using S2.
For further details on all that changes with S2 make sure to read this.
SmartStart aims to simplify the process of Including Z-Wave devices and builds upon the functionality that was introduced by S2.
By removing as much user interaction as possible, SmartStart now makes it a breeze to add new devices to your Smart Home system - simple scan the device QR code in the Z-Wave controller App and power on the device!
SmartStart also introduces further enhancements such as the "Provisioning List". This allows multiple devices to be Included simultaneously simply by powering them all on. For system builders and installers this will be a huge help, because now all device QR codes can simply be added to the Provisioning List in the Smart Home controller prior to shipping to site. The installer or customer then powers on the Smart Home controller and all the devices and the system will set itself up automatically!
For further details on all that changes with SmartStart make sure to read this.
Z-Wave Plus V2, also known as 700 Series or Gen7, builds on the work that began with Z-Wave Plus and the incremental improvements of S2 and SmartStart. From the firmware to the chips themselves, Gen7 brings massive increases in wireless range, vastly superior security, faster operation and all while decreasing power consumption yet again.
The 700 series edition of Z-Wave Plus chips and modules offer major advantages over older versions of Z-Wave in a lot of different categories. End users will notice them the most in wireless speed and improved battery life. Developers will notice them the most in the improved wireless range and the improved memory.
Z-Wave Plus V2 extended features include:
Greater Range - significant increase in range, now more than 200m (clear air)
Lower Power Requirements - up to 10 years battery life
More RF Output Power - up to +13 dBm
Easier Inclusion & Exclusion of devices - Network-wide Inclusion and SmartStart features now mandatory
Security - security first by design, encryption, ecdh and other improvements
Firmware Updates - Over the Air firmware updates (OTA) now mandatory
Frequency Flexible - Built in SAW Filter allows one device to support multiple Z-Wave frequencies
Improved Performance - 700 series chips now ARM Cortex M4 based using faster CPU, more menory and greater storage
All in all Z-Wave Plus V2 offers even more features that will increase the reliability, stability and performance of your Smart Home, but as with the move from normal Z-Wave to Z-Wave Plus, expectations should be tempered somewhat if your existing Z-Wave controller only supports Z-Wave Plus and your existing devices are a mixture of Z-Wave and Z-Wave Plus.
